Background 

Manyara Ranch Management Trust (MRMT) was established in 2018, and registered under the  TanzaniaTrustees Incorporation Act, Cap 318 R.E 2002. Monduli District Council formed the Trust  with the mandate to effectively manage Manyara Ranch Conservancy as a multi-use wildlife  livestock property that supports wildlife conservation and provides benefits to the beneficiary  communities of Esilalei and Oltukai. The Manyara Ranch Conservancy is a 17,692-hectare property  located in the heart of Tarangire-Manyara ecosystem of northern Tanzania. 

To achieve MRMT objectives, the Trust is looking for highly professional and qualified personnel for  the following vacant positions: 

Position: Conservancy Manager 

Position Summary 

Reporting to the Manyara Ranch Conservancy Board and with a close working relationship with  Monduli District Council and other development partners. The Conservancy Manager will be  responsible for both strategic and operational support to the ranch conservancy. S/He will be  responsible for managing the conservancy and developing it to a self-sustaining model that  integrates wildlife and livestock; and contributes to the improvement of the community livelihoods. S/He will be based at Manyara Ranch in Monduli, Arusha.  

Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Developing Manyara Ranch into a self-sustaining property that integrates wildlife  conservation, tourism and livestock to achieve:
  • Benefits to the surrounding communities;
  • Protection of the ecological integrity of the land and broader landscape;  Contribute to the local and national economy 
  • Preparing the annual work plans and budgets for approval by the Board.
  • Managing the ranch and overseeing all conservancy activities such as wildlife conservation,  livestock programs, tourism and other community development programs. 
  • Managing community relations to ensure long-term self-sustainability, strong conservation,  and benefits to communities. 
  • Managing, training, and mentoring conservancy staff and appraising their performance to  ensure motivation and high productivity. 
  • Minimize conservancy expenses and maximize revenue to ensure long-term ranch self sustainability, strong conservation and benefits to communities. 
  • Supervise, monitor, and maintain ranch assets at the highest level. 
  • Oversee management of all ranch budgets, expenses and revenue; ensure clear record  keeping, accurate budgeting and compliance with MRMT and Donor financial procedures. 
  •  Preparing project proposals and reports to donor individuals and organizations for funding. 
  • Develop and implement policies, sales and marketing to improve livestock and tourism  management and profitability. 
  • Support and strengthen the community’s traditional grazing practices in order to build  resilience.
  • Represent the Conservancy in various forums. 
  • To report and be accountable and answerable to the Board for all matters of the  management and the implementation of decisions and directives of the Board. 

Academic Qualifications & Experiences 

  • Master’s degree in natural resources management, business administration, project  management or any related field from a recognized University. 
  • Minimum of five years experience managing a conservancy or multiple projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of contemporary approaches to conservation, livestock development  and natural resource management.  
  • A firm understanding of pastoralist customary livestock practices and community  engagement processes 
  • Experience in designing and managing donor projects. 

Position: Finance and Administration Officer 

Position Summary 

The Finance & Administration Officer (FAO) has the prime responsibility for ensuring that the  resources of Manyara Ranch Conservancy are managed effectively at the operational level. S/He  will support Manyara Ranch Team with the budgeting and financial reporting, and support efficient  implementation of the day to day of the Ranch Conservancy operations. S/He will provide the  financial insights that accompany the programmatic and operational reporting on the revenues and  grants provided by donors. S/He will report to the Conservancy Manager. S/He will be based at  Makuyuni/Manyara Ranch in Monduli, Arusha with travel as needed. 

Responsibilities 

Financial management and accounting 

  • Ensuring that the team understands and adheres to MRMT and donor financial and  administrative policies and procedures. 
  • Ensuring timely submission of all financial reports for review and approval. 
  • Provides departmental/program financial analysis and recommendations on spending  rates, over and under-spending and pattern of expenditure. 
  • Supports head of departments by providing monthly budget status updates.
  • Process Manyara Ranch Conservancy payroll and ensure statutory remittances.
  • Ensure that staff advances are provided timely and closed by staff upon return of their travel  duties.
  • Review expense reports critically against travel to ensure that costs are legitimate  and compliant with MRMT and donor travel rules.
  • Ensure all administrative responsibilities of staff (timesheets, alternate approvers created,  etc.) are completed in advance of travel so as not to disrupt conservancy processes such as  the monthly accounting close. 
  • Supports and facilitates audits 

Budget Development and Management 

  • Contributes to the development of conservancy/project budgets, notes and narratives for  funding proposals; participates in proposal development for major grants. 
  • Ensures that the proposal budget aligns with donor reporting requirements.  Works with the Head of Departments to ensure programme activity-based budgets are  aligned with approved grant budgets 
  • Notifies program team of any significant budget changes that require donor approval and  recommends necessary communications

Contracts & Grants management 

  • Work with the Conservancy Manager and Head of Departments to ensure accurate and  timely financial reports to the donor. 
  • Reviews draft contracts and provides advice on financial compliance; supports negotiations  with donors, as required. 
  • Ensures that financial contract requirements are fully understood by the Conservancy staff.  Maintains archive of grant contracts and amendments, for all assigned grants.  Assisting program evaluation on financial related matters  

Administration management 

  • Ensures safety and security of office records and properties; assets are kept well updated. Ensures that vehicle fleet is well managed, maintained and ready for use.  Assist in higher value purchases with local vendors.  
  • Assist in coordination of performance appraisal and staff training  
  • Oversee staff travel and movements within the ranch and outside the ranch.  Advising the Conservancy Manager on emerging legislative changes. 
  • Undertake any other official duties as assigned by the Conservancy Manager as would be  required. 

Qualifications and Experiences 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Commerce or related  Full accounting qualification i.e. CPA, ACCA or equivalent will be an added advantage. 5 years working experience with financial/accounting systems in any of profit or non-profit organizations.  
  • Proficiency in the use of computers especially, Microsoft Excel and Word, and accounting  databases. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV or Serenic Navigator is ideal. Familiarization with government regulations, e.g., taxes, VAT/duty frees requirements, etc.
