Police and other emergency services responded to reports of an “active shooter” firing a rifle outside Mount Horeb Middle School, in a village in the west of the state.

An emergency alert released by the Dane County Sheriff’s Office said the person was armed with a rifle and “considered dangerous”.

They were not able to gain access to the inside of the school.
