Job Purpose
To develop and implement a long-term, sustainable manufacturing strategy; ensure regulatory and social compliance; align operations with commercial strategy; optimize performance through high-level KPIs; manage within budget; support capital projects; leverage Group resources; foster leadership development; drive continuous improvement; implement Illovo standards for asset management and operational excellence; and promote world-class safety practices.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop a manufacturing strategy aligned with commercial goals, refreshed regularly, with initiatives to ensure delivery.
  • Oversee factory operations for efficiency, quality, and budget control, ensuring cost-effective resource management.
  • Manage asset acquisition, maintenance, and operations to ensure optimal performance.
  • Align manufacturing performance with financial budgets, ensuring accountability.
  • Build a strong factory management team, fostering coaching, mentoring, and a talent pipeline.
  • Drive performance management, rewarding strong performance and ensuring accountability for non-compliance.
  • Promote cost and quality optimization through operational excellence and informed decision-making.
  • Collaborate with group counterparts to identify and embed optimization opportunities.
  • Maintain key relationships with stakeholders and suppliers.
  • Report key developments to Country Executive and Group Heads.
  •  Support and oversee key capital projects to meet economic and community goals.
  • Foster best practices and problem-solving through knowledge-sharing platforms.
  • Integrate Lean, Agile, and continuous improvement philosophies in operations.
  • Track performance with KPIs and address issues promptly.
  • Adhere to SHERQ guidelines, ensure technical risk assurance, and close non-conformances.

Job Qualification and Experience

  • Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or Science Degree.
  • Business / Financial qualification and Leadership program would be an advantage.
  • 15 years in Manufacturing Senior Leadership (including minimum of 10 years in sugar processing and /or engineering).
  • Strong knowledge of the sugar growing and manufacturing process, distillation, and fermentation processes.
  • Strong business / financial acumen in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong track record in management and leadership.

Terms of Service: The successful candidate will be engaged on a Permanent Contract.
