The Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) is a government agency responsible for the development, maintenance, and management of the national road network in Tanzania. Established in 2000, TANROADS plays a vital role in ensuring efficient transportation infrastructure throughout the country. TANROADS oversees the planning and construction of new roads, bridges, and highways, as well as the rehabilitation and maintenance of existing ones. The agency aims to enhance connectivity, reduce travel times, and improve road safety for both passengers and goods transport. It collaborates with various stakeholders, including government bodies, contractors, and communities, to ensure the effective implementation of road projects. TANROADS also conducts regular inspections and assessments to identify areas in need of repair or improvement, and it undertakes measures to address these issues promptly.

1. Position:  Resident Engineers – 3 Posts (One for each of the three projects)

Entry Qualifications:

  • Must be a Tanzanian Citizen who holds a Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
  • Must be registered with ERB as a Professional Engineer with a current practicing license.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Bridge/Structural Engineering will be an added advantage.
  • Must have a cumulative working experience of at least seven (7) years in related fields, including supervision and/or designs of construction of bridges/structures.
  • Served in similar capacity in three (3) projects of similar nature in the past 7 years.
  • Fluency in written and spoken Swahili and English is mandatory.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparation and sketches, maps, and reports of works performed.
  • Assist in reviewing survey data for accuracy, including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites.
  • Record the results of surveys, including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land or land features.
  • Assist in determining specifications for photographic equipment to be used for aerial photography.
  • Perform such other related duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.

2. Position: Structures/Bridge Engineer – 1 Post

Entry Qualifications:

  • Must be a Tanzanian Citizen who holds a Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
  • Must be registered with ERB as a Professional Engineer with a current practicing license.
  • A postgraduate qualification in Civil Engineering will be an added advantage.
  • Must have a cumulative working experience of at least ten (10) years in road and bridge construction designs, supervision, and contract management/administration under FIDIC Conditions of Contract.
  • Must have served as the Resident Engineer or in an equivalent capacity in at least three (3) road construction projects of similar nature in the last 10 years.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Review structural drawings and reports for conformity to applicable standards and specifications.
Review, inspect, and approve construction materials for compliance with technical specifications.
Maintain records including reports, works diaries, and correspondences related to drainage structures on a day-to-day basis.

3. Position: Assistant Land Surveyor – 1 Post (for Bridge Project)

Entry Qualifications:

  • Must be a Tanzanian Citizen who holds a Diploma in Land Surveying or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Must have a cumulative working experience of at least five (5) years in related fields.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Review survey data for accuracy, including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites.
Identify and locate all beacons and benchmarks to enable the contractor to set out and construct the works.
Direct or conduct surveys in order to establish legal boundaries for properties.

4. Position: Materials Technician – 1 Post (for Bridge Project)

Entry Qualifications:

  • Must be a Tanzanian Citizen who holds a Full Technician Certificate (FTC) or Diploma in Civil
  • Engineering or equivalent from any recognized learning institution/colleges.
  • Must have working experience of at least two (2) years in soil/materials laboratory.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Head the site staff and be responsible for all technical and administrative aspects on-site.
  • Manage quality control and prepare and submit mini progress reports with updated costs of drainage works on a daily basis.
  • Approve measured quantities of drainage works satisfactorily carried out.

5. Position: Topographical Surveyor – 1 Post (for Bridge Project)

Entry Qualifications:

  • Must be a Tanzanian Citizen who holds a Bachelor Degree or Advanced Diploma in Land Surveying, Geomatics, or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
  • Must be registered by NCPS as a professional Land Surveyor.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in surveying will be an added advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Carry out institution testing and monitor tests results and trends.
  • Prepare materials testing reports and keep updated all records including reports, works diaries, and payment records.

6. Position: CAD Technician – 1 Post (for Bridge Project)

Entry Qualifications:

  • Must be a Tanzanian Citizen who holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering, Highway Engineering, Land
  • Surveying, or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Must have working experience of at least five (5) years in related fields.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare drawings and sketches in collaboration with other staff related to road or bridge design.
  • Maintain an office diary at the site and prepare correspondence reports.

7. Position : Works Inspector – Drainage/Structure – 1 Post (for Bridge Project)

Entry Qualifications:

  • Must be a Tanzanian citizen who holds a Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Must be registered by ERB as a Graduate Engineer with working experience of at least three (3) years in related fields.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complete supervision of the laboratory and experiments, strictly applying the specifications.
  • Ensure the implementation of the QA/QC procedures in the project.

8. Position: Materials Engineer – 1 Post (for Bridge Project)

Entry Qualifications:

  • Must be a Tanzanian Citizen who holds a Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
  • Must be registered with ERB as a Professional Engineer and have a current practicing license.
  • A postgraduate qualification in geotechnical/pavement engineering is an added advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in reviewing all structural drawings and reports for conformity to applicable standards and specifications.
  • Assist in preparing mini progress reports with updated costs of drainage works on a daily basis.

9. Position : Works Inspector – Road Works – 2 Posts (1 for Bridge Project and 1 for Kibondo Town-Link)

Entry Qualifications:

  • Must be a Tanzanian Citizen who holds a Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
  • Must be registered by ERB as a Graduate Engineer with working experience of at least three (3) years in related fields.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspect road works to ensure compliance with technical specifications.
  • Inspect the implementation of QA/QC procedures in the project.

Terms of Service

The Terms of Employment: Specified Contract

Salary: TANROADS Salary scale with other site allowances as per TANROADS Incentive Policy.
