Senator Nyutu narrates how love for girls derailed his priesthood passion – Nairobi News

The Murang’a senator recounted how his passion for beautiful girls derailed his childhood passion of becoming a Catholic priest.

“I had just been circumcised… you know… and I had started visiting the nearby Muthithi market (in Kigumo constituency)… I looked at the beautiful girls walking around and I silently abandoned the passion of priesthood,” he said while addressing his brethren at Muthithi Catholic Church.

At the Holy Mass, where Vice President Rigathi Gachagua was the chief guest, the congregation were left in stitches when Mr Nyutu, in his comic element, declared that “the soul insisted on the priesthood but the body flatly refused”.

He apologised to the priests present, saying: “I have betrayed the cause since I discovered women and marriage as a good thing… it was all my fault as I was led by a strong body charge which found a weak faith in me”.

Mr Nyutu said his weaknesses in no way undermined his faith in the Catholic Church and never undermined his faith in priests.

“That is why I have never abandoned the Catholic faith and priests remain among my good friends. I love the Church of God and all faiths… My only problem was that I could not resist the lure of beautiful girls,” he said.

Mr Nyutu is 59 years old and a father of three – a daughter who is now a lawyer, a son who is an engineer son and another one who is still in high school.

He hails from Ichagaki Ward in Murang’a County and began his political journey under the banner of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

His foray into politics began in 2017 with an unsuccessful bid for the Senate seat, followed by an attempt to secure the position of Murang’a National Assembly Speaker.

He is an old boy from Kijabe High School, from where he went to Moi University for his Bachelor of Education degree, graduating in 1994.

He went on to Strathmore College in 1999 for an accounting diploma and later to Kenyatta University for a further degree in business administration.

A former Christian Religious Education and Swahili high school teacher, he says he also worked as a taxi driver to make ends meet.

A teetotaler who also hates smoking, sniffing or eating tobacco, Mr Nyutu is known for his comic eloquence and bold stances.

Nyutu called for Mr Gachagua to be sacked as deputy president and for Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro to be appointed as his running mate in 2027 and heir apparent to President William Ruto in 2032.

Mr Nyutu told Nairobi News on Sunday that “we have abandoned that line of argument and we are busy helping President Ruto and Mr Gachagua to implement our joint coalition plan”.

He said that come 2027, he may decide to run for the Maragua constituency seat now held by Mary wa Maua, who in turn is said to be eyeing the governor’s seat against Irungu Kang’ata.
