TWO Traditional Healers in Chikankata District who had been engaged for cleansing acts in Mweenda Chiefdom with the blessing of the Chieftainess, have reported of being assaulted by two Police Officers.
The two identified as Last Chizela aged 23 and Nchimunya Sibbumbe, 28, sustained bruises on their heads, swollen foreheads and general body pains as sticks were used to inflict injuries.
Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka, notes that the dual were hired by the Chikombola Community to cleanse the area.
Daka says as the gentlemen were going about their work, Chikombola Ward Councilor, Ian Namakala, called Police Officers from Malabo Police Post, reporting that there was a Traditional Healer who was compellingly collecting animals from people.
The Councilor was advised to tell the people who were aggrieved to physically go to Malabo Police Post to officially report the matter and when two weeks passed without progress, Officers summoned the two Traditional Healers.
Daka states that the dual were interviewed in the presence of the Traditional Court Clerk, to which it was established that there was no report of them collecting animals.
He however noted that around 14:00 hours on 24th March, the Councilor, with two Officers from Chikankata Police Station apprehended the two Traditional Healers and beat them up.
Daka says the act by the Officers annoyed the locals, who rose against them and went to Chieftainess Mwenda’s Palace to report the issue, with the Traditional Leader calming the almost riotous crowd.
