Mission and objectives
The UN Resident Coordinator is the representative of the UN Secretary-General in Tanzania and is responsible for coordinating the work of the UN Tanzania Country Team (UNCT) which consists of 23 UN Agencies.
Context
The UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) in Tanzania supports the UN Resident Coordinator in promoting Tanzania’s attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Africa Agenda 2063. The RCO further provides strategic guidance and coordination support for the design and delivery of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2022-2027. Developed in partnership with the Government, the UNSDCF is the UN’s key instrument to respond to national needs and to advance social, economic and environmental priorities in line with the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The RCO advises and supports UN agencies, funds and programmes on areas of Strategic planning, Substantial evidence-based SDGs analysis; Data and Results-Based Management, Results monitoring and reporting; Partnership and Development Finance; and Programme Communications and Advocacy.
The NUNV Communication Associate will support the RCO Communication team in making visible and documenting UN’s contribution to sustainable development in Tanzania. He/she will closely collaborate with the UN Communication Group (UNCG) and external partners and will report directly to the head of the communication team.
Task description
Based in RCO under the direct supervision of the head of the head of the RCO Communication Team the NUNV will support coordination and implementation of various components of the RCO Communication Workplan as well as the work of the UNCG (an interagency group of communication officers from UN agencies in Tanzania).
This will entail:
- Supporting the production of a wide range of joint communication and advocacy materials including website articles, press releases, newsletters and other publications.
- Collaborate with UNCG to identify compelling stories and case studies showcasing the impact of UN projects and activities, emphasizing human-interest narratives.
- Support monitoring and compilation of national news related to the SDGs and official development assistance and other relevant topics.
- Support management of UN Tanzania social media platforms with relevant content to enhance the visibility of UN’s work in the country.
- Assist with coordination of RCO/UNCG meetings, events and activities.
- Provide interpretation service for senior UNRCO/UN Country Team officials at select events, activities.
- Perform any other tasks as required by the RCO Communication Team and RCO senior management.

Nationality
Candidate must be a national or legal resident of the country of assignment.
Requirements
Required experience
3 years of experience in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Media Studies, Social Sciences or a related field.
- Previous experience working with an international development organization is an asset.
- Excellent oral and written skills in Kiswahili and English including excellent drafting, editing, compilation and reporting skills. eJXtPjW Dmw146
- Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development.
- Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel.
- Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Word, Outlook, etc.) and social media applications (e.g. X, Instagram, Facebook).
- Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines.

Tanzania is a stable and peaceful lower-middle-income country. Dar es Salaam is Tanzania’s commercial capital and contains high concentrations of trade and other services and manufacturing compared to other parts of Tanzania, which has about 80 percent of its population in rural areas.
