PSI is seeking a Project Director for an anticipated 3-year Malaria Elimination project based in Zanzibar. The Project Director will be accountable for delivery of all aspects of the project including technical implementation, financial and administrative compliance and oversight of project staff. The position will also lead coordination with government, donors funding malaria elimination activities in Zanzibar, and other international and national stakeholders to align with national and regional priorities, policies, and interventions. The Project Director will be responsible for using evidence to improve project design and implementation and for ensuring that learnings are shared and leveraged to improve results. The Project Director will serve as the primary point of contact for the project donor.
Your Contribution
- Program Leadership & Management, including financial oversight, compliance, project management, including of sub-partner Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, timely implementation and reporting of activities. Ensure that grant operations and sub-grantee management activities are in full compliance with PSI and donor regulations and operations.
- Thought Leadership / Knowledge Management and Technical Leadership of the project – Provide technical expertise throughout implementation, ensuring activities and outputs are technically sound, responsive to local context, and optimize available resources to achieve project objectives. Actively seek opportunities for synergy and efficiencies with other donors and implementing partners and prioritize the scale up and sustainability of project activities, initiatives, and systems. Develop a strategic external communications agenda and lead team in ensuring lessons from implementation and research are shared and disseminated. Represent the project at internal and external forum.
- People Management – organize and direct the work of project staff and short-term advisors, set individual performance objectives cascaded from project objectives to all staff on the project. Provide supervision, training and performance management, coaching and feedback.
- External Representation – Build and maintain strong and collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders in Malaria Elimination in Zanzibar, including but not limited to the Zanzibar Malaria Elimination Program, Zanzibar Ministry of Health, and multisectoral actors involved in achieving Malaria Elimination in Zanzibar. Manage regular engagement with WHO, the Zanzibar Malaria Elimination Committee, and other key stakeholders on a strategic level to ensure the project meets its policy and sustainability objectives and liaise with other project partners to ensure coordination and implementation of project.
- Donor Liaison – serve as a key liaison with the Gates Foundation, as well as other donors interested in PMC.
- Internal Representation and coordination.
What we are looking for?
- Master’s Degree in MSc, MPH, MBA, MHA, MPA or equivalent.
- At least 10 years related work experience either as an entomologist, parasitologist, or epidemiologist.
- At least 7 years program management for global health projects in low or middle-income countries (LMICs) preferred.
- Ability to interpret and use routine data and make technical adjustments to achieve project outcomes.
- Ability to coordinate and work effectively with diverse stakeholders in numerous locations and levels, including private partners, donors, government officials and bodies, technical experts, civil society organizations, community members and organizations and project support staff.
- Strong leadership skills, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate and work across teams and roles. Ability to persuade and motivate people and teams.
- Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with a wide network of partners and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated strategic thinking and planning skills, with emphasis on the ability to operationalize and oversee the execution of workplans.
- Fluent in English and Kiswahili.
Excellent writing and presentation skills.
