AHN TANZANIA is seeking to fill the position of Biomedical Engineer (“BME”).
The successful candidate will assist the clinical team in solving technical problems related to dialysis and the field of dialysis across our dialysis centres in the coastal zone regions, Tanzania. This individual will be primarily working in a clinical setting, with a strong focus on setting up dialysis-related equipment, including Dialysis Machines, Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems, and maintaining this equipment

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot problems with RO systems, dialysis machines, and other medical equipment used by the clinical team.
  • Develop in depth knowledge in the field of dialysis, particularly the various machines and components needed to build and maintain a dialysis machine.
  • Understand the various Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) around Nipro, Fresenius and Baxter/Gambro dialysis machines including the differences between manufacturers.
  • Work closely with other medical professionals, such as doctors and nurses as well as with end-users (patients and their attendants)
  • Training technical or clinical staff on equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Maintaining the equipment to the best of its performance by organizing a planned maintenance program for all equipment’s and attending to emergency breakdowns and repairs.
  • Ensure that any routine activities required within the centers are performed as required e.g. loop disinfection
  • Review the clinical reports from allocated centers to ensure that all BME issues are addressed
  • Responding to issues reported on the ground per the TAT guidelines

Key requirements for the role are as follows:

  • BSc in electronics engineering/ electrical engineering/ biomedical engineering from a recognized university
  • Must be registered by the Engineering Registration Board of Tanzania
    3-5 years of experience in Healthcare Industry
  • Familiarity with the health and safety/ quality standards High levels of proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills (English is a requirement)
