Blur’s Damon Albarn berates silent Coachella audience for not singing

Met with silence, he told the crowd that he will “go one more” and “you can do better than that”.

Despite the lacklustre response to Girls and Boys, Blur’s official social media accounts thanked Coachella for their reception.

Girls and Boys was the first single released from Blur’s 1994 album Parklife and charted at number five in the UK and at 59 in the US.

The band, whose members are Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree, were a major force in British music in the 1990s and formed a chart rivalry with Oasis.

Albarn has appeared at the Coachella festival before, coming on stage to perform alongside Billie Eilish in 2022 and receiving a warmer welcome from the crowd.

The band went on a hiatus after their 2015 Magic Whip tour but came back last year with their first record for eight years, titled The Ballad Of Darren, which reached number one.
