Rikolto in East Africa is part of the Rikolto network, an international NGO with more than 40 years of experience in partnering with farmer organizations and food chain actors across Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America. Rikolto aims to contribute to the development of a dynamic, sustainable, and inclusive agricultural sector with family farmers providing quality produce for their own consumption and for diverse markets (national, regional, and international markets).
JOB PURPOSE
- Provide financial support to the Finance Analyst.
- Assist with administrative and logistical tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the office.
Reports to: Finance Analyst
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform daily bookkeeping tasks and assist with the monthly integration of financial information and partners.
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
- Review and ensure staff travel advances are accounted for in a timely manner as per the finance manual.
- Assist in preparing monthly and quarterly management reports.
- Reconcile and maintain balance sheet accounts.
- Support the preparation of budgets and forecasts.
- Continuously monitor budgets monthly using automated Budget vs Actual Reports.
- Ensure all procurement procedures comply with the finance manual.
- Properly file all financial documents after relevant reviews and approvals.
- Accurately record and analyze income and expenses.
- Prepare monthly fuel control reports and follow up on unusual variances.
- Analyze and advise on program operations, including income and expenditure trends.
- Analyze financial information to recommend or develop efficient use of resources and procedures, provide strategic recommendations, and maintain solutions to program and financial problems.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory deductions and taxes and submit them to relevant authorities.
- Implement and maintain internal financial controls and procedures.
- Assist in the preparation and submission of periodic and timely financial reports to relevant stakeholders.
- Support the Finance Analyst and Finance Systems Manager during internal and external audit processes, ensuring audit compliance.

- High-Quality Financial Analysis and Reports: Deliver comprehensive and insightful financial analysis and reports that facilitate strategic decision-making and enhance organizational transparency.
- Compliance and Value for Money: Ensure strict adherence to the Rikolto East Africa Finance Manual and donor regulations, minimizing the risk of disallowed expenditures and maximizing value for money in procurement processes.
- Enhanced Financial Systems: Implement and optimize financial systems to produce automated, accurate reports, and maintain the integrity of financial data.
- Effective Planning and Reporting: Support effective decision-making through timely monthly and quarterly financial planning and reporting processes.
- Recognition for Financial Excellence: Elevate Rikolto’s financial management practices to be recognized for excellence both internally and externally.
- Legal Compliance: Ensure full compliance with all legal requirements, including NGO registration and labor laws, safeguarding the organization from legal risks.
- Procurement Adherence: Maintain strict adherence to procurement policies and standards, ensuring transparency and efficiency.
- Asset Management: Oversee the effective management of assets, vehicles, and inventory in alignment with organizational policies and standards.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent professional experience.
- ERP Proficiency: Proficient in using ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) accounting software for streamlined analytical financial operations.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in an accounting role, preferably within the NGO sector.
- NGO Experience: Previous experience with international NGOs is a distinct advantage.
- Language Skills: Fluency in English, both written and spoken.

- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills to interpret financial data and provide actionable insights.
- Autonomy: Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision, demonstrating initiative and proactive problem-solving.
- Human Resource Management: Understanding of key concept calculations in payroll controls.
- Excel Proficiency: Quick learner with the ability to master advanced and automation features of Excel for enhanced financial analysis.
