People in northern Gaza have had to survive on less than a can of fava beans a day since January, as the war between Israel and Hamas continues to besiege the territory, according to Oxfam.
That amounts to an average of 245 calories daily, said the UK charity.
“Israel is making deliberate choices to starve civilians,” said Amitabh Behar, Oxfam’s international executive director, in a statement.”
“Imagine what it is like, not only to be trying to survive on 245 calories day in, day out, but also having to watch your children or elderly relatives do the same.”
“All whilst displaced, with little to no access to clean water or a toilet, knowing most medical support has gone and under the constant threat of drones and bombs.”
Concerns have spiked as famine stretches across the Gaza Strip, with aid deliveries trickling down to nearly zero given violent skirmishes as the Israeli military continues its offensives.
Oxfam has said that less than half the number of food trucks needed to allow everyone to receive a daily 2,100 calorie intake is currently entering Gaza.
Many international aid organisations have stressed that famine is imminent in Gaza, and that many people are experiencing extreme hunger with some children already dying from starvation and malnutrition
