We are audience-led, market-driven with a clear mission to empower the nation. We are looking for a motivated and highly experienced individual to fill the position of:

NEWS PRODUCER (1 POST)

PURPOSE: you will be responsible for overseeing the production of video content for news media outlets. Your role will involve conceptualizing, planning, and executing video news stories that inform and engage audiences. You will work closely with reporters, editors, and other production team members to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality video content that meets journalistic standards.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Use audience data to refine content strategies for news, features and special projects for YouTube and social media pages, focusing on mobile-first delivery.
  • Develop scripts and storyboards to outline the narrative structure, visual elements, and key messages of video news stories. Ensure accuracy, clarity and adherence to journalistic standards in all written content.
  • Develop content outside events stories and research topic for video news coverage for Mwananchi Digital, stay informed about current events, trends and newsworthy developments to identify compelling stories for video production.
  • Conduct interviews and experts to gather information and perspectives for video news stories, capture high quality footage using video cameras, audio equipment, and lighting setups in various shooting environments.
  • Upload & distribute visuals & audio to MCL sites and social media channels, ensuring accurate, timely content delivery for discrete audiences.
  • Edit raw footage to produce polished video news segments that adhere to established style guidelines and editorial standards. Incorporate graphics, visuals and other multimedia elements to enhance storytelling and audience engagement.
  • Conduct thorough fact checking and verification processes to ensure the accuracy and credibility of video news content. Champion the use of videos and interactive photography across MCL websites & social media pages, ensuring content is of exceptional, publishable quality.
  • Develop and deploy new content formats, including new segments for our existing video platforms (YouTube & Instagram), interactive stories and visualizations.
  • Research, cultivate & operationalize new digital distribution platforms for MCL(e.g. TikTok, Discord), working closely with the ME, Online & New Content.
  • Cultivate and effectively manage relationships with various sources and stakeholders to ensure newsmakers talk to Mwananchi Digital first.
  • Serve as digital liaison and champion with MCL’s various news desks & content team, helping them learn to deliver news for digital platforms first.
  • Any other duties or responsibilities assigned by your head of unit.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

  • Academic: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism/Mass Communication or its equivalent from a recognized institution.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years working experience

Technical: Expertise with digital audiences, content creation and distribution using various CMSes. Experience editing & sharing video (Premier Pro, Final Cut, MimoLivej.knowledge of motion graphics, animations, visual effects (Blender, Adobe AE), HTML, CSS, & JavaScript would be an added advantage.
