There was a reverential hush in Rushville, Indiana as the eclipse began – despite tourists flocking from the surrounding states.

“This is the last time I’ll see this in my lifetime!” one spectator shouted, according to the Associated Press.

People from Ohio, Virginia, Wisconsin, Florida, North Carolina, Kentucky, New York and Michigan have descended on the small town, which will see around four minutes of darkness during the full eclipse.

The first total eclipse took place in Mazatlán, Mexico a few minutes ago, which is the first site in North America which lies on the path of totality.
