The State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) is a public university located in Zanzibar, Tanzania. It was established in 2002 by the Zanzibar House of Representatives Act No. 8 of 2002, and is the only public university in Zanzibar. The university offers undergraduate and graduate programs in a variety of fields, including natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, education, business, and law.
SUZA has four campuses, including the main campus in Tunguu, which is located approximately 14 kilometers from the capital city of Zanzibar, and three other campuses located in the districts of Mkoani, Vuga, and Beit el Ras. The university also has a number of research centers and institutes, including the Institute of Kiswahili and Foreign Languages, the Institute of Marine Sciences, and the Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management.
The mission of SUZA is to provide high-quality education, research, and community engagement in order to promote social and economic development in Zanzibar and beyond. The university is committed to producing graduates who are well-equipped with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to become leaders in their fields and contribute to the development of their communities.
