Dar es Salaam. Despite winning 3-0 over Mongolia in the world football governing body (Fifa)’s international friendly, the national football team, Taifa Stars is still ranked 119th in the latest rankings released today, April 4.
Apart from the victory over Mongolia, who are ranked 191st with 884.04 points, Tanzania also played against Bulgaria and lost 1-0 in Baku, Azerbaijan. At the time, Mongolia were ranked 190th.
Taifa Stars’ goals were scored by Kelvin John, who features for Belgian side KRC Genk, Azam FC’s Abdul Suleiman Sopu, and Novatus Dismas, who features forUkrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk.
The rankings show that Tanzania remain with 1,159.81 points while Bulgaria also remain in the same position, 83rd, with 1,292.58 points.
In February, Tanzania climbed two places after garnering 1,160.98 points.
This climb was attributed to Taifa Stars’ performance in the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, where Tanzania finished fourth in Group F, collecting two points.
The rankings show that Argentina lead with 1,858 points, followed by France with 1,840.59 points, and Belgium in the third position after leapfrogging England with 1,795.23 points.
England have dropped to the fourth place with 1,794.90 points. Brazil rank fifth with 1,788.65 points.
In Africa, Morocco maintain the top spot with 1,661.42 points, followed by Senegal who are second with 1,624.73 points.
Nigeria rank third with 1,520.27 points, while Egypt hold the fourth position with 1,499.72 points.
Afcon winners, Ivory Coast, are placed fifth with 1,498.80 points.
In the Cecafa region, Uganda lead with 1,242.15 points and ranked 92nd in the FIFA rankings.
Kenya sit 107th with 1,191.24 points, and Tanzania are ranked third with 1,159.81 points.
Sudan hold the 127th position with 1,129.32 points, while Rwanda lie 131st (1,112.44 points), and Burundi ranked 140th (1,081.63 points).
Ethiopia are 145th with 1,068.48 points, and South Sudan are ranked 167th with 984.65 points.
