Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) has announced that Wednesday on April 10, 2024 is the deadline for the clubs to confirm participation in the Tanzania National Club Championships (TNCC).
The championships are scheduled to take place at Masaki’s International School of Tanganyika (IST)’s swimming pool from April 20 to 21 in Dar es Salaam.
Speaking with The Citizen yesterday, TSA Secretary-General Inviolata Itatiro said they have decided to extend the deadline to give room for all clubs in the country and abroad to confirm.
Inviolata said recently World Aquatics (WA) endorsed TNCC to be the qualifying event for the World Championships and the extension will give a chance to swimmers from other countries to compete.
She said that they are expecting a big number of competitors in this year’s event and called upon clubs that are yet to confirm to do so without delay.
According to Inviolata, swimmers are required to compete in a maximum of five (5) individual events and three (3) for relays. She also said all foreign swimmers who have met the qualifying time standards and cleared by their federations through providing clearance letters and proper travel credentials will be allowed to compete.
“Qualifying times must be achieved between August 1 and March 2024.” said Inviolata. The event’s programme indicates that 70 out of 108 events will be held on day one, with the rest taking place on day two.
According to her, the swimmers will need to demonstrate their strength during the two-day event.
“This competition is very important for swimmers because it will be used to select competitors from all age groups to form the national team. So, they will have to strive for that,” she said.
Inviolata explained that the event serves as a selection process for swimmers who will compete in various international events.
