Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) has launched the official jerseys of the national teams, which will be used in various international competitions.
The launch took place today, April 4, in Dodoma city and was officiated by Culture, Arts, and Sports Deputy minister Hamisi Mwinjuma, popularly known as MwanaFA, TBF president Michael Kadebe, and Kajumulo World Sports officials.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Mwinjuma said, under President Samia Suluhu Hassan, all sports are given the deserved place in the nation’s development.
“Despite sports being an entertainment, it is also employment,” he said, congratulating TBF for leading in the promotion and development of basketball in the country.
Mwinjuma also said, as stewards of this development, TBF has done a commendable job in ensuring that youth of all ages have the opportunity to play and enjoy basketball.
He said the close collaboration between TBF and the ministry, through the National Sports Council (NSC), has enabled to achieve these goals.
Mwinjuma underscored that the launch of the national teams’ jerseys signifies a significant step in the development of basketball in the country, crediting TBF along with Kajumulo World Sports for achieving this milestone that will bring great benefits to basketball.
“Firstly, it will increase motivation for the national teams. The new jerseys will instil motivation and pride in players as they wear the national colours.
“Secondly, this collaboration will open up revenue streams for TBF,” he said, suggesting that other products beyond jerseys, such as bags, leaders’ T-shirts, and tracksuits, can be sold and distributed nationwide.
“I urge all basketball stakeholders to support the efforts of TBF and Kajumulo World Sports in promoting basketball and providing our youth with opportunities to shine internationally,” Mwinjuma added.
In his remarks, TBF president Michael Kadebe commended the government for its efforts in developing sports in the country and called on all sports stakeholders to provide their support.
Kadebe reiterated TBF’s commitment to basketball development in the country, citing their engagement in various youth projects aimed at elevating the game to its highest potential.
“We thank Kajumulo World Sports for their support in becoming the leading stakeholder in game development. We call on all stakeholders to join hands with us and purchase our jerseys and other products,” said Kadebe.
