Dave Gilbert fought back tears speaking to BBC Two after reaching the semi-finals: “I was struggling to even get to the qualifers to be honest. I was thinking of turning up, taking my 10 grand and going home.

On possibility of facing John Higgins again after losing to him in the semi-final five years ago: “I’d love to play the great man again and see how we fare. He’s a legend and I’d love to have that challenge again.”
