Most experts agree that there are 7 generations currently living in the world today. That’s a lot of generations! But what are these generations called, and what defines them? While not everyone born within a generation is the same, there are some general qualities associated with each generation. 1. Generation Alpha (Born 2010-2024)
Generation Alpha is the youngest generation alive today. Having grown up with technology, Gen Alpha is highly tech-savvy. People in this generation tend to be socially, globally, and environmentally conscious.
2. Generation Z (Born 1997-2009)
Generation Z is the second youngest generation. Similar to Gen Alpha, Gen Z is very tech-savvy. They tend to be independent, creative, and inclusive, and they highly value authenticity.
3. Millennials (Born 1981-1996)
Millennials are one of the largest generations alive today. Millennials experienced the rise of social media firsthand, so they’re both tech-savvy and familiar with what life was like before smartphones and Instagram. People in this generation tend to be idealistic, resourceful, and career-oriented.
4. Generation X (1965-1980)
Generation X, also sometimes called the MTV Generation, is known for being independent and self-reliant. People born in this generation tend to enjoy alternative pop culture, and they’re often not as invested in the latest technology as younger generations.
5. Baby Boomers (1946-1964)
Baby Boomers are one of the largest generations on the planet. They get their name from the post-World War II baby boom, when there was a huge increase in the number of babies born. Baby Boomers tend to be traditional, civically engaged, and hard-working.
6. The Silent Generation (1928-1945)
The Silent Generation came of age during World War II and an economic depression. In part due to the turbulent times they grew up in, people in this generation tend to be resilient and community-oriented.
7. The Greatest Generation (Born 1901-1927)
The Greatest Generation is the oldest generation alive today. People in the Greatest Generation tend to value making sacrifices for the greater good. They’re often very resilient and determined but also humble.
